Compliance Assistance Specialist at Occupational Safety and Health Administration

In 2010, Brett began his career as a Compliance Assistance Specialist (CAS). In his role as the CAS, Brett promotes OSHA training on a variety of topics. Through Brett’s knowledge and expertise, he is able to respond to requests for assistance from a variety of groups, including small businesses, trade associations, union locals, and community and faith-based groups. In addition, Brett promotes cooperative programs, such as the On-site Consultation Program, the Voluntary Protection Programs, the Strategic Partnership, and the Alliance Programs.

In 2000, Brett began his career as a Compliance Safety and Health Officer (CSHO) at OSHA located in the Baltimore/Washington Area Office. In this position, he performed various types of inspections from construction to industrial, as well as, accident investigation within Maryland and the greater Washington Metro area.

Prior to his current position at OSHA, Brett worked as a Safety Specialist at the National Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland in which he performed inspections for safety related items and conducting training to civilians and military on all types of safety related topics. In addition, he was the Confined Space Program Manager and the Respiratory Program Manager where he fit tested roughly 200 personnel for respirators.

As a proud Navy Veteran, Brett was an electrician mate from 1977 until 1981. He served aboard the Guided Missile Cruiser USS Albany, which was the Flag Ship of Com 6 fleet in the med and then transferred to the sub tender USS L.Y. Spear a Sub Tender in Norfolk, Virginia. Once completing his military service, Brett began his career as a Fire Fighter at the Department of the Navy, National Naval Hospital in Bethesda performing various types of firefighting duties. After some time in this position, he became a Fire Inspector at the National Naval Medical Center inspecting the hospital, labs, maintenance facilities, etc.

In Brett’s spare time, he enjoys volunteering at the American Legion and VFW in Mount Airy, spending time with his two children and his two grandchildren, and enjoying his afternoon motorcycle rides.

VOSH Cooperative Programs Director of Virginia Department of Labor and Industry

Jennifer is the VOSH Cooperative Programs Director for the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry, overseeing the agency’s Consultation and VPP divisions. Her 16 years of experience with the Department of Labor and Industry includes Senior and Lead Safety Consultant, Consultation Program Manager, and VOSH enforcement division Program Director. Jennifer is an authorized OSHA Outreach Trainer.

She received her B.S. from Virginia Tech, majoring in Industrial and Systems Engineering, and her M.S. from Columbia Southern University in Occupational Safety and Health. Jennifer is a Certified Safety Professional. She is a Professional Member of the American Society of Safety Engineers, having served in the past as the Colonial Virginia Chapter Treasurer and Secretary.
